Incredible Scooter Trip

No, not us. Here is a link to a blog you gotta follow. This guy is riding a scooter (scooters) from Vietnam through China, Mongolia, across Russia and all over Europe. He is only a few days into his trip and has had quite a journey so far. Since he could not use his own scooter for the first part of the trip due to import issues, he rented and purchased a small bike to use in Vietnam and China, but has been forced to use the train for some of his trip.

Waiting for him in Korea is his Suzuki Burgman that he will use on the majority of the trip. A Burgman! Just like mine except his is the 650 instead of the 400.

If you like adventure, follow along. I think it will be more interesting than following Tioga George in Israel.

  1. Are you going to add that link to your Blogroll? It's an incredible trip to make on a scooter. I read up to his latest post and plan to follow him on his trip. Thanks for the link!

  2. Good idea. I added it as Scooter Trip of a Lifetime.

  3. It is indeed very interesting. I just wish I could read from the top in chronological order instead of finding each entry, reading to the bottom, then jumping up to find the start of the next entry. Richard, sound familiar?

  4. I found it easier to open one entry at a time, then pick from the list on the right hand column for the next entry up. That way you not only can read from the top to the bottom of the page, you also see any comments (although there aren't many).

Fun trip. It underscores my lament that without a husband, it would be pretty hard for me to take a big "roughin' it" road trip anywhere.

  5. I added Scooter Trip to my blogroll too. It is fascinating. The best way to read it is Google Reader. I read the entries in order that way.
Thanks, Richard, for posting about it. I love Google Reader.

  6. Glad you all found it interesting. I imagine he will have limited access to the internet in many places so the postings will be sporadic. That causes some of the problems with reading since several entries tend to be posted on the same date. As he also mentions, he is unable to read what he has posted since China is blocking any blogs. That would make it tough!

Thanks for the suggestion Donna. That does help.

Glad you like Google Reader Betty. I find it much more convenient than just an RSS feed, and leave one tab open to it all the time.

  7. He is now in Shanghai but has not had a chance to update his blog yet. It should be coming soon.

Garry also posts on burgmanusa.com forum that I follow. He posts condensed versions of his trip there under the Road Trips topics. His own blog is much more detailed and interesting so it is best to wait for him to post there.

  8. It's been a while since the Scooter Guy has posted. I hope he's ok.

  9. Me too. His last post on the Burgman forum was also on June 3 and nothing has been heard since then. Could be there is just not a lot of internet access in Siberia.

  10. The Scooter Guy has posted several times since The Laffertys' Life has posted anything new. (hint hint!)

  11. Garry from OZ is fine. The trip has been an ordeal so far, and finding internet access has been difficult. He is OK and pushing on. Riding on horrible roads has created problems, the biggest being his battery was destroyed by all the bumping. I hope he writes a book. It would be an interesting read.

  12. No post from you in over a month. There must be something to write about, instead of hashing over someone else's blog.

    We are waiting, impatiently.

  13. I was composing a new post as you were posting your nudge. You didn't have to wait long, impatiently or otherwise.

  14. Reading Garry's latest post, it sounds as if his Burgie is getting trashed. I think it will never be the same again. Also sounds like he will be glad to put Kazakhstan behind him.

    Quite an adventure!

  15. Sure does. Based on his descriptions of the road conditions, I doubt any motorcycle would hold up. I am amazed it has made it this far and still continues to run.

I can't imagine doing this ride. Not only the incredible weather and road conditions, but to be traveling on your own in unknown lands, well off the beaten path, would be physical torture and mental torture as well. It takes a certain kind of person to do something like this!

  16. I'm thinking an enduro would probably have held up better but they are made for rough riding. That Burgie isn't.

  17. This actually sounds like a lot of fun. What was his reason for going on the trip?

    Best,
    Kyle Park
