Official Senior Citizen

Yep.  That's me.  I start drawing social security as of next month (the month after your 62nd birthday) and will receive my first check about the 15th of April.  Whoopee!  At last I get some of the money back that I have paid in all these years.

I also can now take advantage of the one time $10 purchase of the Golden Age Pass (or whatever they are calling it now) that will provide free entry into most National Parks and Monuments, as well as half price camping in federal campgrounds and many state facilities as well.  That will actually help when we visit Phoenix since it will only cost $3.50 per day instead of $7 to park out by the river.

We will be here only about another week.  We plan to leave on Monday the 23rd for points west.  It will take a few days but we will be in Arizona eventually.  Our travel speed will depend on what route we take, what we stop to see along the way, the weather, the wind and what we feel like at any point in time.

Thanks to all who remembered my birthday and sent their wishes, congratulations or condolences.

  3. You will probably have it electronically sent to your bank in Texas--are you officially Texans now? With you, it's hard to tell.

  6. I need an RV park in the Mesa/Tempe area, or even Gilbert. I think I want to bring my trailer this time. You have stayed at a few around there. Any suggestions?

  7. We have stayed at a couple RV parks as well as a county park in Usery Pass and a boondocking spot along the Salt River. The RV park where we stayed twice was Mesa Spirit on Main. It's not far from where Mom and Dad used to live and about halfway between Mom and Donna. Well, maybe closer to Mom, but not bad. Do you belong to Passport America Camping Club? If you do you can get 50 percent off at several parks in the Mesa area. You could probably save the annual cost of the club in one stay. The county park has water and electric but only a dump station. It is quite far east and north in Usery Pass. The boondocking place we stay is way north on Power Road. It costs $7 a day unless you are 62, in which case it costs $3.50 per day. Guess who just had a 62nd birthday!!!!!!!

  8. $7 a day is a lot cheaper than the $38 at Mesa Spirit. I don't really need electricity and water as long as we are only staying for a few days. How far north on Power Road is it?

  9. Here is the link to the location where we stay. There are three other similar spots upriver.

We usually stay in the first of these two parking lots, but not for any good reason. There is a nice nature trail and easy access to the river. There are pit toilets available but you have to bring water from town.

You have to stop at one of the stores on Power near the 202 and buy a Tonto Pass for each of the day's you plan to stay.

The County Park in Usery Pass is much more refined for about $20 per night.

  10. I think that's a little farther away from Heather and the rest of the family than I wanted to be. We'll only be there a few days so I guess we'll suck it up and pay a little more.

  12. Not till sometime after March 15 and before the 22nd. Joce is going to the Phoenix area so I would like to be there a few days while she's there. She and Eric are sharing a ride with Judi and Gary.

  13. I was actually thinking we would stop at Quartzsite either on the way there or back figuring you would be there by then.

  14. The wildflowers are just starting to bloom, so hopefully they will be peaking while you are here.

Les and I took a nice hike last week just down Bush Highway a little from your camp. There are a couple of trails leading up into the low hills; not too strenuous, but a nice walk.

  15. We know you are on your way, but where are you? Do you have facilities to let us know in the evenings? Enjoy yourselves while you are YOUNG!
