Mexican Dentistry

Well, American dentists can learn a lot from those in Mexico. We got to Algodones about 10:15, walked in to a dentist's office and since we were the only ones there were seen immediately. After I told her what I needed Dr. Sonia Moralles, the dentist, called the surgeon who does root canals and he was there before she finished my cleaning. He did my root canal and then she did the impression for my crown. I go back tomorrow to get my crown. Total time: 2 1/2 hrs. Total cost: $355.

Richard went in for his cleaning and to get his filling replaced. Total time: 1 hr. Total cost: $65.

She was very good and we'd recommend her in a heartbeat. The cost was about 1/10 the cost of a crown in the States and about 1/4th that of a root canal here. Unbelievably great experience.

  1. WOW!! That is great! I think we have spent close to $3000 in dentistry this year and we are not done yet! Do they have good meds? Were you given pain pills?

Maybe I will send Mark down south to finish up all his work and I should go too, as I apparently need a root canal too! After insurance it will cost us $500 just for me! Who knows what Mark's will be!

  2. They gave Richard a prescription to take next door to the pharmacy to get filled for a pain medication. The only medication either of us took. I'm thinking of getting my HRT there as a generic which I can't get in this country. Much, much cheaper.

  3. Was it easy to get across the border? You don't need a passport just to go that far into the country, do you?

I need a crown (I have a fractured tooth on an old filling). I have pretty good dental insurance, but my portion will still be ~$400. My dentist has a beautiful new office with all the latest technology equipment. Someone's gotta pay for all that! ;)

  4. Crossing into Mexico here is incredibly easy. There is not even a border check of any kind. You just walk in. Coming back you have to go through US Customs and Immigration. This time of year there is not much of a line but I understand it can get to two hours in Jan and Feb. We had our passports and they just looked at them and the medicine we got for Dianna. Not more than 30 seconds apiece.

My understanding is that you can still just use a drivers license, but the passports make it much easier and quicker.

  5. I assume they were all fluent in English. Were they trained in the US?

  6. They all spoke good English, but probably not what I would call fluent. Dr. Moralles went to school in Baja California. She was as painless as any dental work can be. I thought she was better than the Dr. I went to in Denton. The office was clean and had modern equipment, but it was quite small.

  8. Looks like you got Wordpress 2 installed. Nice, fresh new theme! Where's the photo from?

  9. OK. Who is pretending to be me? I did not ask myself a question. In checking the IP address of the poster it looks like it might be Daryl.

This is just a pretty photo that came with the theme. I will put something else up when I get a chance to work on it. The upgrade went fine after Daryl recovered all my data. That was necessary because he deleted it all.
