A Day in the Life of a Camp Host

For those of you wondering what we do all day here's our schedule:

7:15 am - do morning camp check
8:45 am - eat breakfast
9:00 am - pick up trash
11:30 am - take shower & eat lunch
12:15 pm - do afternoon camp check
2:00 pm - go for scooter ride or embroider or lay on the beach or watch TV or run errands
5:00 pm - 6:45 pm - dinner & free time & answer camper questions when we're on-site
6:45 pm - 7:30 pm - go for a walk
7:30 - 9:30 pm - free time
9:30 pm - pick up clipboard for camp check in am

We are putting in about 4 1/2 - 5 hrs a day which I think is more than plenty for volunteers. I sure don't want to do this all year but it helps with the budget and is a way to feel useful. (Donna - some day your turn will come!)

  1. Here's my daily schedule:

Get up at 5:30 and head to work by 6:15.
Work all day (no lunch break -- eat at desk).
Go home at 7:30 p.m. Get online and work a couple more hours.
Fall into bed at 10:30 exhausted, and try to sleep quick before 5:30 rolls around again.

My turn can't come quickly enough!

  2. Didn't I read that you volunteered for your torture?!

  3. And for all this hard work, all you get is a free place to park your trailer?

  4. At their prices that's a savings of $1020. Besides, where else do you wake to the sound of the ocean every morning, see buff lifeguards and bikini-clad surfettes on a daily basis and never have a day above 80 degrees?

  5. Richard,
We all envy you and all the people at CVS says hi!
I have a couple of questions for you....
    1. Tape drive... according to Dan Thompson, an external tape drive was ordered 3582-L23. Did you mean to order this?

    2. Did you have to adhere to a freeze 11/1 - 2/14 for no CVS changes. Did this apply to the AS/400.

Thanks in advance and once again.... we all wish you and your family the best....

  6. And have you been so busy since August 17 that you can't find time to update the story of your exciting job? Has no one tried to get out without paying? No fights for the ranger to break up? No loud weekends which required the ranger to use his authority as an officer of the law, to quiet it? No near drownings or sharks? There must be something you can write about, even if it's not as exciting as my move!
